Test / Layout of the Swift Trawler 41 fly, Modularity gives you space

The Swift Trawler 41 manages to extend its layout as much, if not more than on the 44 it replaces without touching its 12.50 metre length. Three cabins and 7 berths are cleverly arranged.

Dogmatic change

Whereas the old range was based on a layout with a forward galley opposite the wheelhouse and the saloon aft, or in the centre, of the main deck, the renewal with the 47, and now with this 41, characterises the objective of greater versatility between deep-sea navigation and daytime cabotage. If the proximity of the wheelhouse allows, in the first case, the navigator to switch to the stove during his watch, it is undoubtedly more practical for anchoring to have the galley between the aft cockpit and the saloon. However, the increasingly large glass areas on modern vessels provide a perfect view of the water, even in the galley, from aft.

The famous extra metre generated by modularity

It is not easy to have as much space as on a larger boat, however, the yard does manage to do so mischievously by articulating, once at anchor, two crucial benches on the main deck. In the saloon, the wheelhouse bench swivels to face the table, surprisingly increasing the number of guests for meals. Passage from bow to stern is still possible through the side door. For the night, the U-shaped bench seat folds down to make room for a nice double berth, surrounded by blackout curtains. Difficult to make more modular and this leaves room for a buffet unit where all the necessary equipment for a long cruise will find its place.

The aft cockpit bench seat, mounted on slides, moves back on the aft deck to install another large dining table. Of course, all this is mechanical and requires attention, but the extra metre is indeed there, without feeling the effects on the francisation or the berth.

Three cabins instead of two and a laundry room

Whereas the 44 had two cabins, the 41 offers the owner's cabin forward with separate toilet and shower on each side, a double cabin with double bed that separates into twin beds and a third children's cabin that can also be used as a laundry and storage area depending on the programme and crew. Did you say modular?

One XXL flybridge except for the annex

The dining area on the flybridge is treated with the same madness of size and transformation, as the folding backs of the two large bench seats create, if necessary, additional seating for navigation or lazing around. With a mini galley this flybridge is super pleasant, but encroaches on the aft sundeck which will no longer be able to accommodate a dinghy as on the 44. There has to be a downside to all these advantages.
