Test / Swift Trawler 41 navigation and programming, a more convincing versatility

We tried the Swift Trawler 41 off Port Ginesta. Its ability to play either the economical trawler or to glide to increase speed and quickly reach a shelter is well balanced.

It's a great time to get on board and settle in at the controls on this type of unit. All it takes is one step to find yourself on the gangway and another to get behind the wheel. Panoramic vision is excellent and the console is large enough to accommodate an optional offshore instrumentation package with a Raymarine 12-inch screen. Radar, transponder and rear camera are among the imperatives for blue water cruising. The doubling is also provided on the fly.

Our model was equipped with the smallest engine of 2 x 260 hp Volvo D4, the strongest being 2 x 300 hp, the difference is not obvious. On the day of the test, the light sea forced us to cut the wake of other boats to get an idea of the passage at sea, and it is very flexible. It's difficult to catch the pronounced V of the bow when passing these artificial waves, nor even the tuliping which proves to be very effective as no spray rises on deck. The trawl speed of 9-10 knots is therefore very comfortable, and makes life on board very pleasant. This will not be luxury, because at this speed the 26 litres/hour required by the bilge cavalry will take you more than 450 miles from your starting point for 48 hours. Might as well be cozy, don't you think?

However, the hull is a guarantee of planning from a speed of 15 knots and crossing quickly on calm seas between 16 and 20 knots will be a pure pleasure to speed up the pace, but for a shorter period of time of course.
