Hugo will be taking part in the next Mini Transat aboard a Maxi 650 designed by the architect David Raison and built by the Breton shipyard IDB Marine. Unlike the majority of Mini 6.50's, his boat has a round bow.
He explains in his video his choice of a scow, a form that has been around for years and which develops in Class40 (Crédit Mutuel by Ian Lipinski) or more slightly in IMOCA (L'Occitane en Provence by Armel Tripon), the gauge being particularly strict.
Because in Mini, if the gauge determines the dimensions of the boat, it is more open to the hull shape. And for Hugo, the scow has the advantage of reducing the wetted surface and therefore to slide better on the water. In addition to performance, this bow shape also helps to keep the boat relatively dry and therefore more efficient.
