Test / Accommodation and life on board, of l'Aquila 36: a multifunctional deck layout

Before we cast off for the Aquila 36 trial run, we study its exterior and interior layout. The space is compartmentalized and the modularity makes it possible to meet all requirements.

Multifunctional arrangements

The Aquila 36 was designed for American boaters. Its specifications are pragmatic. A lot of space and functional modularity make it usable for very different programs. Day trips, short cruises, receptions on board, fishing and diving are within its capabilities.

Exemplary deck plan

Benefiting from an interesting width of almost 4.50 m, the space on deck is immense for a 36-footer. It is divided into three distinct parts. The bow, accessible through a central gate, has benches that can accommodate eight people seated, and four once transformed into a sunbathing area. The roof houses the cockpit with front bench seats for four people, then the galley and a table for six people, all open onto the aft cockpit. There is a fridge, a sink and a barbecue grill. Enough to grill the fish you've caught or the T-bone steak you've brought along. In the day boat version, there are no less than 24 seats on the deck. And in the Cruiser version, you can hide the glass surfaces with thick curtains, transforming this open space into a very cosy saloon.

Cabins for small cruises

The interior space for four people is more restricted with the two cabins that find their place at the bottom of a companionway at each edge of the central aisle. The cabins are identical on each side and are quite private due to their independent access. At the bottom of the forward steps, the alcove bed is just wide enough for two adults, small but very cosy. The gangway is equipped with large portholes for light as well as view. A private shower room on the other side of the companionway is equipped with the essentials and has plenty of storage space. With a good headroom, it is possible to spend, in good weather, a long weekend or a short week in comfort. But not much more..

A very modular aft cockpit

At the rear, several options are possible by configuring the three rear modules separately. Those on the sides can be equipped with either bench seats, a barbecue-fridge module or large refrigerated trunks for storing fish, if required. The middle module can be fitted with a double front and rear bench seat that can be converted into a sundeck, or a fishing and diving set with a stern access gate and swim ladder. The central circulation from stern to bow is very ergonomic and one can move around without disturbing the occupants of the seating areas scattered around the deck.
