Test / Test of the Flyer 10 Bénéteau, Open and Express cruiser at the same time

We tried Flyer 10. Flagship of Bénéteau's range of small outboard openers, she offers a nice mix between walkaround and cruiser cabins, not to mention speed and affordability

The big brother of a complete range of day-boats

The Flyer range from 6 to 10 meters from the Vendée-based manufacturer is present on all fronts of the small open with two deck plan configurations: Space deck, a kind of walkaround articulated around a central console and Sun deck which sees its front decked to the cockpit to receive underneath a cabin and above a beautiful sunbathing area. However, the 10-metre boat we are trying out today, like the very recent 9-metre, is resolutely only available in the Sun deck express cruiser version, combining the outside spaces with a beautiful interior layout with two cabins and a bathroom.

The "smart walk around" concept

Or one could say, "side walkaround", as it is indeed a matter of concentrating traffic on the foredeck rather than on one side, with a gangway passing through a windscreen and a hatch opening to port. A lot of room has been gained, starting with the forward sundeck, three seats. And underneath, a truly beautiful modular cabin with double berth and bathroom. But that's not all, this layout allows you to enjoy four real front seats next to the pilot when sailing, which is extremely rare in this size. A second cabin under the aft deck is a plus which allows you to go on a family weekend without any complexes. On the aft deck, the cockpit is very spacious and modular. 11 people can easily find a place on the deck, which corresponds to the CE certification in category C.

A technological hull

Since 2003, the brand has worked a lot on the performance of hulls fitted with outboard motors and also IPS. It uses the famous "steps" under the hull, generating air cushions that promote performance, stability and comfort when moving. Originally created for speed records, this system has been used for pleasure boating by the brand under the patented name of Air Step. On the boats in the range, these small steps, which reduce the friction surface by multiplying the volume of air under the hull by two or three, make it possible to avoid overloading the stern with too powerful engines.
