Refit : A second life for a Pogo 50 with an eventful history

Abandoned on an embankment, the Pogo des potees, a Pogo 50, has benefited from a thorough refit by professionals. Thibaud Ramond, in charge of the interior design, presents us the project.

A completely refurbished sailboat

The Pogo des potees has had an eventful history. This Pogo 50 the boat has been sailing far from the French coast, before being left aside without maintenance for several years. Filumena Marine, the manager of this boatyard, has finally found a buyer for the beautiful 50-foot monohull, but with the proviso that she be given a good overhaul. The shipyard will take care of the painting, electricity, plumbing, rigging and motorization. He turned to the company Dream Racer Boats to redo the interiors according to the client's requests.

An interior made to measure

The company's team started from scratch to design the interior of the boat, as Thibaud Ramond explains. "We surveyed the boat after everything was disassembled, and then we modeled the proposed layout in 3D. Obviously, we had to take into account the structural elements already in the boat, in accordance with what the Structures yard allowed. Then the client validated the plans and we were able to produce everything in the workshop, before going to install it at Filumena."

High performance materials and high perceived quality

The work was carried out with the Pogo builder's philosophy and performance objectives in mind. If the goal was also to improve the perceived quality of the interiors, the choice of light materials and intelligent solutions allowed to combine the 2, according to the Dream Racer Boats manager. "We drew up a set of specifications with the choice of materials. All the fronts of the furniture are in sandwich with a wood veneer and varnishes, there are just a few pieces of solid wood where it is necessary for the feeling and the touch in the hand. We redid the doors and changed the handles, lacquers and chose quality hardware, and for the lighting we worked locally with Mantagua. We also integrated textile, in particular with the removable textile closets made by one of our partners, a seamstress in Douarnenez, le fil de la Côte. Only for the Corian top of the kitchen did we make a concession to the weight, at the request of the client."

As always, the prices for this kind of project vary greatly depending on the requirements, supplies and choice of materials. In the case of this Pogo 50, the bill is around 100 000 euros, but with different materials, it is possible, according to Thibaud Ramond, to complete this type of work from 60 000 euros
