Kaebon EB Eins, an electric carbon dayboat inspired by the 1920s

The EB Eins is a small dayboat of 5 m, built all in carbon for a very light weight. Only 89 kg! On the program, an electric motorization to have fun on inland waters, at the wheel of a beautiful fast and silent toy.

A small 5 m carbon dayboat

Kaebon is a young German company, which was founded in January 2021 in Munich, Germany. At its head, founder and CEO Kai Krause, a sailing and regatta fan, decided to produce the lightest electric boats possible. At Boot Düsseldorf 2023, the company was exhibiting the EB Eins, for One, in its prototype form.

It is a full carbon boat of 5.25 m long and 1.70 m wide, weighing only 89 kg. The design with its clean and elegant lines, with an inverted bow, is derived from the classic boats of the 1920s, all revisited in a contemporary look. It is the work of the Munich-based agency Muniq Design, which has been working with various high-end automotive brands for several years. In addition to the look, this design is also the result of aerodynamic and hydrodynamic optimization work to reduce drag in the air and water and thus gain speed. Also in this weight saving, the classic cleats have been replaced by ultra-light textile loops.

The high-tech hull was created in Dubai, which has good expertise in carbon. It is made of a sandwich of pre-impregnated carbon fibers. This lightness of construction allows the EB Eins to receive less power from the motor and batteries. In total, the final weight with motor and battery climbs to 250 kg.

For the finish, Kaebon chose to cover his boat with a topcoat paint that gives it a glossy finish, protects it and reduces the weight estimate compared to gelcoat.

Two electrical options for the motorization

The EB Eins comes standard with a 6,000 watt Torqeedo electric outboard motor, which is roughly equivalent to a conventional 9.9 horsepower outboard. A 5,000 kWh lithium battery pack is associated with it, and can be doubled as an option.

As an option, the motorization can be increased to 12,000 watts, in combination with two 5,000 kWh batteries. The estimate of weight passes in this version to 60 kilos, against 20 kg for the standard version and is equivalent to 25 horsepower in thermal. The manufacturer announces nevertheless that an electric motor of 5 kW is sufficient, considering the shape of the hull and the capacity of the boat to sail in the planning.

The manufacturer announced us a maximum speed of 30 km/h, that is to say approximately 15 knots, for an autonomy of 45 minutes. But it is at a lower engine speed, without other details, that the autonomy is brought back from 6 to 10 hours.

Sailing with 4 people in comfort and elegance

The full charge time with a standard 650 W charger is 10 hours, reduced to 2 hours with a 50 amp supercharger. Light, fast, elegant, the EB Eins is also very welcoming. 4 people can take place on board this small boat, rather reserved for lakes or rivers, although it is approved in category C and D. The program: fun, dynamic driving close to the elements, all in comfort and in a boat that can be transported on the roof of your car - by removing the propulsion.

This way, two people can sit on the bench seat and two others can sit in a large hatch in the front deck. In both cases, the space remains spacious for the legs. Finally, two people can transform the beautiful front deck into a sunbathing area.

The standard price starts at 66,000 euros and rises to 75,000 euros with a Torqeedo 12.0.
