Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air, the luxury of automotive electric propulsion

Attributes from luxury electric cars

Austrian shipyard Frauscher and carmaker Porsche have joined forces to develop an exclusive sports dayboat. 25 exclusive units will be built, based on the steering technology of the future electric Porsche Macan. The 8.67 m-long daycruiser is based on the Frauscher 858 Fantom Air, renowned for its driving qualities. The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air is destined to set new standards at sea and benefit from the attributes of the Taycan electric sports car: acceleration, pulling power, superior performance and inspiring design.

Stefan Frauscher, CEO responsible for marketing and sales, explains: "Founded by my grandfather in 1927, the Frauscher shipyard has been building electric boats since 1955. The collaboration with Porsche gives us the opportunity to strengthen our leading role in this field within the industry."

A concept based on the 858 Fantom Air

The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air is based on the Frauscher 858 Fantom Air daycruiser, whose 8.67-meter-long, 2.49-meter-wide hull is virtually unchanged. Porsche has optimized and developed its propulsion technology designed for cars so that it works at sea. This makes it possible to use the state-of-the-art Premium Platform Electric automotive propulsion technology that will equip Porsche's first model of its kind. This technology comprises a high-voltage lithium-ion battery with a total capacity of around 100 kWh, a latest-generation permanent magnet synchronous electric motor and associated electronics. Thanks to Porsche's 800-volt technology, the electric boat can be recharged at DC fast-charging stations. AC charging is also possible. Porsche is currently investigating other applications for its powertrain in other boat sizes.

Console design by Porsche

In addition to the propulsion, some aspects of the project involve Porsche styling and design. Studio F1 Porsche is also in charge of cockpit design, creating the steering wheel and console with integrated throttle and displays.

Like the Frauscher 858 Fantom Air with conventional transmission, the electric version can also accommodate up to nine passengers. The swim platform at the stern leads to a large saloon with two comfortable sunbeds. A central passageway links the stern of the boat to the cockpit. Two further benches forward invite you to relax. Also on board are two biminis, an electric guide with stainless steel anchor, a high-end sound system and a refrigerator. Porsche also plays an important role in the design of the seats and upholstery, to ensure a luxurious experience.

25 units to be pre-ordered for delivery in 2024

This new luxury model is equally suited to a dayboating program or a superyacht tender. It can be used at sea as well as on lakes or inland waters. The initial plan is to design 25 units, which can be pre-ordered from Frauscher and will be delivered to the first customers in 2024. The boats will be built at the brand's shipyard in Ohlsdorf, Austria. The brand also handles sales logistics and after-sales management.
