A luxurious floating hotel complex could be built in the Maldives

Michele Puzzolante, an Italian designer had the idea to create a huge floating hotel complex, the Solar Floating Island, which operates autonomously thanks to solar energy.

Fighting against rising waters in the Maldives

To fight against the rise in sea level in the Maldives and the disappearance of islands, the country is using floating islands. Inspired by this model, the Italian designer Michele Puzzolante, from the MDP Design agency, has developed a new concept called the Solar Floating Island. It consists in reproducing a solar floating island that operates in a completely autonomous way and uses solar energy as its only source of power. This large hotel complex, built on stilts, allows to remedy the rising waters. The Italian designer has received the support of the Maldives government and a first phase of development should begin in the coming months despite the exorbitant cost of the complex, 145 million dollars.

A luxurious and modern complex

The Solar Floating Island project is a large five-star resort with hotels, convention centers, stores and underwater restaurants. It consists of a five-star hotel with 54 rooms, suites and presidential penthouses, with restaurant, bar, spa, stores and conference room. The complex will also include a marina that can accommodate 14 yachts, a 185 m2 restaurant and an underwater lounge-disco bar and 3 heliports. A spectacular water park will allow families to enjoy water sports. Each hotel will come with private solar villas that can move at a speed of 7 to 8 knots. Each villa will have a living area of 160 to 220 m2 spread over 2 floors. They will be equipped with 2 to 3 spacious bedrooms with bathrooms, a large living room including kitchen, living room and dining room and a cockpit. A gigantic wooden terrace will host deckchairs and spa. The highlight of the show is on the lower level with a lounge entirely below sea level to admire the wonders of the Indian Ocean. The interior design will be unmatched and will adapt to each owner's desires.

The Solar Floating Resort is built so that each private floating villa can dock at a marina. The basic design consists of 20 villas, 16 traditional yacht berths, three heliports and 9 seaplanes as well as a luxury yacht club.

An ecological and tourist project

This project was born from the principle that the sun can generate more electrical energy than all the non-renewable resources such as coal, oil or uranium. Besides its ecological virtues, it is also free, clean, renewable and sustainable and helps to protect our environment. Convinced that solar energy is the solution to environmental problems, Michele Puzzolante has created this new floating hotel project.
