No to shellfish on probes!

The probes of the sounders do not support traditional antifouling. With increasingly larger probes, with the new graphic sounders that "see" in front and to the sides, it can be interesting to avoid the proliferation of fouling. Discovery of a new kind of antifouling.

Sonar users know not to paint the transducer with "conventional" antifouling paint, the same paint that covers everything else on the hull. This type of paint interferes with the transmission and reception of echoes. The traditional solution is not to paint the probe at the time of refit, but to protect it temporarily with masking tape.

But in the absence of antifouling, the famous fouling, made up of these pernicious algae and shells, quickly squats on the sensor. This has the same effect as a sensor covered with antifouling! The sounder loses quality. This is especially true for transom-mounted transducers that are close to the water's surface, in an area that is very exposed to the sun's rays, with warmer water that is more favorable to bacterial growth.

Matt Chem, a chemist who develops a whole range of marine products, launches an antifouling for probes. This is not a real innovation â?" there are a few on the market â?" except that this one is water-based, and therefore solvent-free. Remember that solvents are there to evaporate upon application allowing the drying of the product, but alas polluting then the atmosphere. No problem when it is water that evaporates.

The film formed by this paint remains flexible and contains protective antifungal compounds that form a barrier against the encrustation and development of algae and other marine microorganisms such as barnacles.

The application must be done in three coats on a degreased surface (interval of one hour between each coat). The 30 ml mini bottle contains a brush attached to its cap. The application is greatly facilitated, without the need to clean the brush between each application.

Coverage: 30 cm2 with one bottle (apply in 3 coats)
Price 2015 : 9,90 euros TTC (This product is no longer available in the MattChem catalog)
