On the proposal of the regional commission of heritage and sites, the prefect of Brittany has just registered 14 new lighthouses of the region as historical monuments.

The protection as Historical Monuments will allow to protect them by having the Ministry of Culture recognize the heritage value of these lighthouses. Thus, the Ministry will now be associated in case of renovation works and will be able to participate in the preservation of the Breton cultural heritage.

On March 14, the National Commission for Heritage and Sites will proceed with the classification of lighthouses. If they are classified, they will benefit from a higher level of protection.

There are now 70 protected lighthouses in France out of a total of 130.
