The cursed lighthouse of Tévennec has a new guardian

The Tévennec lighthouse

Marc Pointud, President of the Société Nationale pour le patrimoine des Phares et Balises (SNPB) joined the cursed lighthouse of Tévennec on Saturday 27 February. He will spend 60 days in isolation to raise public awareness of the future of the lighthouses and offer himself an extraordinary experience.

In 2011, the Association pour le patrimoine des Phares et Balises (SNPB) receives an authorization from the State to occupy the lighthouse for a period of 10 years. The aim is to restore the Tévennec lighthouse to make it an artist's residence. And the choice of the Tévennec fire is not a coincidence. Belonging to the category of "Hell" it has a very important maritime history. Isolated in the open sea, on a rocky outcrop, the Tévennec Lighthouse consists of the main house and its terrace.

The Tévennec lighthouse is located at the western tip of Brittany, in the northern part of the Sein ravine, between the island of Sein and the tip of the Van.

Then come to the idea of the president of the SNPB to live for 60 days on the lighthouse. This operation, called "The Light on Tévennec "is to occupy the lighthouse to raise awareness of the rehabilitation project, but also responds to personal motivation. Marc Pointud has always wanted to try his hand at the job of lighthouse keeper and the cursed lighthouse of Tévennec is a natural choice.

But the operation is running late. Marc Pointud was scheduled to stay there in October and November 2015, but poor weather conditions prevented the smooth running of electrical installation operations in the lighthouse.

At the time of our interview of October 8, 2015 Marc told us that he was ready to spend the Christmas holidays there, but it was finally on Saturday, February 27 that the 65-year-old man joined his rock.

The president of the SNPB joined Tévennec by helicopter, as weather conditions, storms and swells do not allow access by sea. He will therefore spend 60 days physically isolated from everything in a rather basic comfort (chair, table, bed), but will nevertheless have modern means of communication: computer, camera and Internet connection.

During his stay, Marc Pointud will spend his days with a few books, but also writing his book and keeping his blog. This is a little far from the total isolation of the lighthouse keepers of the time..
