The Solo Concarneau opens the season of the Figaro Bénéteau 2016 circuit

The Solo Concarneau Trophée Guy Cotten will take place for the first time in its history from 14 to 20 March 2016. Historically organized in May, this 40th edition will therefore open the hostilities of the 2016 Figaro Bénéteau circuit season. Another novelty, the solo sailors will not be the only ones to take the start since the race is open to duos.

It is by mutual agreement that the Figaro Bénéteau class and the Société des Régates de Concarneau âeuros the organizer - have decided to change the historical dates of this must-see event of the circuit. The calendar of figarists being particularly busy in May 2016, the event becomes this year the kick-off of the season. They are therefore 30 registrants expected on the starting line, on March 17.

But this is not the only novelty since for its 40 e anniversary, the Solo Concarneau also opens to another format. Less than 3 weeks before the start of the Transat AG2R âeuros La Mondiale, which is a double-handed race, the SRC (Société des Régates de Concarneau) has decided to open the event to duos. This event will serve as training before the transatlantic race to Saint-Barthélemy. It will also be an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the starting area.

"The Solo Concarneau âeuros Trophée Guy Cotten has become a real institution in the preparation races for the Solitaire du Figaro. This year we are opening the course to duos, which will be an excellent way to finalize the sports preparation of those registered for the double-handed transatlantic race which will start a few days later. For all of them, the 340-minute course will be demanding, taking them south of Ushant and then to the island of Yeu, before returning to cross the line in front of Concarneau. It will be necessary to be versatile, first on the tactical tacks at Finistère Point, before a long tack further out to sea allowing more marked options." explains Mathias Lallemand, race director.

What course?

The boats will sail in a zone between Brest and Les Sables-d'Olonne, starting from the port of Concarneau. In total, the solo sailors and crews will have to sail a 340 nautical mile course from Concarneau. The skippers will then have to pass between the Glénans, then go back up to Brittany, to the island of Yeu.

Who is participating?

The regatta is open to boats in the Figaro Bénéteau one-design class, in duo or solo. Moreover, this will be the first time that this preliminary race of the Figaro Bénéteau circuit is open to duos. This is so that the Figarists can train on this format, a few weeks before the Transat AG2R, which is played in double-handed.

What's special about it?

The Solo Concarneau is a race of the Figaro Bénéteau circuit. This year 2016, it will open the season and will serve as training for the Transat AG2R âeuros La Mondiale, which is raced in double-handed and starts from the same place.
