How to set a MMSI number in a VHF?

To ensure safety, a VHF DSC must first of all be configured with an MMSI number. A simple operation that only needs to be performed once.

When first turned on, your VHF DSC will ask you to enter an MMSI number. This is a unique identifier for your boat that will be used for radios, but also for distress beacons.

In France the application for the allocation of its MMSI is free by making the request on the site of the ANFR Section Authorisations d'émissions/Radiomaritime. After your file has been created, you will receive a letter with the 9-digit MMSI number.

They must then be entered into the VHF.

To avoid input errors, the number is requested twice. Be careful not to deceive yourself, because once the number has been entered, you will have to send your VHF back to your dealer so that he resets it.

The MMSI number is only entered once, once this number has been entered, the VHF no longer needs to be switched on.
