How to win the America's Cup?

The calendar for the 35th America's Cup, to be held in Bermuda in May 2017, has been confirmed by ACEA, the organization of this edition. The regatta will open with the Louis Vuitton America's Cup Qualifiers on Saturday 26 May at 7pm French time (2pm local time), with a duel between Groupama Team France and the title holder, Oracle Team USA.

Course of the America's Cup

The America's Cup began in 2015 with the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series. It's a series of nine stages played around the world for two years (2015-2016). Non-qualifying for the Cup, it allows you to pocket points. Thus, the first of the classification will pocket 2 points while the 2 e will get 1 point. In 2017, Land Rover BAR won on this preliminary circuit.

The official America's Cup calendar was scheduled to begin on May 26, 2017. But due to the weather, the first regattas will take place on Saturday 27 May. During one month will take place the qualification phases (Qualifiers), then the Playoffs and finally the Match, between the Defender and the best of the 5 challengers.

Louis Vuitton America's Cup Qualifiers

The Louis Vuitton America's Cup Qualifiers will address all six crews - the five Challengers and the Defender - who will race on prototypes of the AC Class rule. Each team will meet twice in duels, with a point awarded to each winner.

After qualifying, one of the Challengers will be eliminated. The top four will then access the Louis Vuitton Challengers Playoffs. The Defender will automatically qualify for the Match. Oracle Team USA will meet the best of the Challengers for the final match.

Date: Friday 26 May to Saturday 3 June 2017

Louis Vuitton America's Cup Challenger Playoffs

This will be the last qualification, allowing the four qualified challengers to race in two groups for the semi-finals. The first of each group to reach 5 points will win the semi-final.

The winners of these semi-finals will then face each other in the final, at the end of which the first to have reached 5 points, will be designated as the Challenger.

Date: Semi-finals: Sunday 4 June to Thursday 8 June/finals: Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 June
