Here are a few points to keep in mind before taking possession of your boat:
- Arrange transport to reach the boat. Train or plane tickets, up-to-date identity documents (ID card, passport, etc.).
- Manage car parking in advance. Many ports no longer offer the possibility of leaving a vehicle for several days without a parking meter. You often have to look for long-term parking.
- Think about additional insurance, such as repatriation insurance.
- Up-to-date vaccinations are also a guarantee of a good vacation. Some vaccinations are not compulsory, but are often recommended.
- Prepare your own pharmacy with your usual medicines. This will save you running all over the port looking for the right medicine, especially if you're renting abroad.
- Helping crew pack. Inexperienced people can't imagine how much space a crew member has in a boat. Avoid rigid suitcases, prefer soft bags.
- Prepare your arrival by following the weather forecast at least 3 days before departure. This will give you a better understanding of sea conditions.
- Prepare your navigation by researching in advance. You can consult nautical charts or books on navigation in the waters of your trip.
- For all logistical questions (parking, refuelling, transfers...) don't hesitate to contact your rental company. He's on site and should be able to help.
- Prepare a notebook to take notes and make sure you don't forget anything before setting sail. This could also be the notebook you'll use as a logbook once you're at sea. It will also be your memory book once back on land.
