Web series / Under The Pole III : Arrival in Greenland and beginning of polar dives

In this second episode of the web-series of Under The Pole III, discover the crew back in Uummannaq, Greenland, the beginning of the first polar dives in search of natural fluorescence and the encounter with a sticky iceberg blocking the anchorage of the Why, the expedition's schooner.

For the expedition Under The Pole III (2017-2020), the crew of the Why returned to Greenland, which they had left 2 years earlier. Ghislain Bardout and Emmanuelle Périé-Bardout arrived in Uummannaq in July 2017 and met up with friends they had met during their wintering in 2015

The arrival in Greenland also means the beginning of the Under The Pole expedition, and therefore the first polar dives. After some technical repairs to prepare the boat for expeditions, we find Ghislain accompanied by Marcel Koken, natural fluorescence biologist and animal communication, Labocea, CNRS and Cyril Gallut, marine biologist, species evolution, Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in search of natural fluorescence. The teams are also taking the opportunity to inventory the Arctic biodiversity they have been working with for the past ten years.

But sailing in Greenland can offer some surprises, like getting stuck at anchor by an iceberg. The team who found the episode distressing during the first expeditions immediately found the right gestures to free the anchorage and move away as quickly as possible from the ice cube which threatened to turn over on the boat. Episodes that have become an integral part of everyday life, while on board, the children paint.
