Banner, only top-of-the-range batteries

Banner Batteries

Banner is a battery specialist. It supplies all vehicle manufacturers, including shipyards. It is the 4th largest battery manufacturer in Europe. It offers all types of batteries, adapted to the needs of users.

A long-standing factory

Banner is not a battery supplier like any other. This Austrian company has been in business since 1937. It specializes in high-end products and works primarily with major vehicle manufacturers as original equipment suppliers.

Cars, but also professional vehicles, camper vans, caravans and of course the navy. These volumes sold to manufacturers (more than 400,000 batteries per year at BMW...!) necessarily reduce production costs. But these record sales also make it possible to work on the development of quality products.

How does a battery work?

A battery is an accumulator of electricity. It produces this electricity through a chemical reaction triggered by lead modules (the plates) bathed in sulphuric acid. Once the chemical reaction is complete, the battery only needs to be recharged electrically to regenerate the solution.

Batteries adapted according to use

We differentiate mainly between two main families of drums:

  • Starter batteries
  • Service or traction batteries

Starter batteries must produce a high current for a very short time. As their name suggests, they are used to start internal combustion engines. In the Banner range, these batteries are lead batteries.

Utility batteries use slow discharge technologies. They must be able to withstand a lower current, but for a longer period of time. This is possible by using different plate technologies that are thicker.

Battery technologies

Liquid electrolyte battery

They are full of acid (liquid) and can be sealed up to 55° (Banner Power Bull). They are usually used as starter batteries.

Gel battery

Here the liquid is replaced by the gel. They are not watertight batteries, but they are very resistant to heeling. They are only slow-discharge batteries. Quite fragile, these batteries don't like vibrations.

AGM Battery

They are gas-reconditioned batteries (Absorbent Glass Mat), so they are 100% leak-proof and can even operate lying down. They are the ideal batteries for yachting. Solid and maintenance-free, they can withstand all types of temperatures.

For its AGM batteries, Banner does not use circular plates, but instead uses parallel flat plates. This technology offers more capacity, and allows more power on start-up. Banner's AGM range today extends from 60 to 105 A.
