The Spindrift 2 mast still not found...

Spindrift 2

Spindrift 2 set off for the Jules Verne Trophy on 15th January 2018, but dismasted before it had even crossed the starting line... A hard blow for the team who had been preparing this record for two years and had been waiting for the right weather window for two months. Since then the weather in the zone (Brest) has slowed down the search and the repatriation of the trimaran, which is only returning to the yard on 29th January.

After dismasting on 15th January off Brest, as she was preparing to cross the line for her crewed round the world race (Jules Verne Trophy), Spindrift 2 returned to her home port on 29th January. A late arrival in La Trinité-sur-Mer, which can be explained by the poor weather conditions encountered over the past few days.

The maxi-trimaran has returned to her yard in Vannes for a series of checks and repairs to the port float, cap and rudder damaged. A 3-month refit that challenges the schedule that Spindrift Racing had set itself for the year 2018. Indeed this dismasting is a hard blow for the team and for Yann Guichard, who had worked for nearly 2 years for this record on the optimisation of the trimaran and who had been on stand-by for two months.

" We worked hard to get the boat ready, we were ready to go. It's a fantastic boat that has been built to break records, so we want to get her back in the water as soon as possible" commented Yann Guichard.

The weather also disrupted the search for rigs in the Goulet de Brest area (29). A local rescue team came to help the offshore racing team to try to recover the mast and everything else. An operation suspended while waiting for better conditions.

" We are doing everything we can to recover the mast and any debris that may have reached the sea. Teams have been mobilised around the dismasting area both at sea and on land. The recovery of the mast remains our top priority ", concludes Yann Guichard.
