Test / Aspir by Botalo, long term test

It's rare to present used shoes in a magazine But how can they be tested without wearing them out? How to validate the concept and use without having them on your feet? Here is the result of 6 months of test of Botalo Aspir in real use.

December 2017, six months ago, we presented you a new model of Botalo, deck shoes of the manufacturer based on the basin of Arcachon since 1968 . These seawater-treated leather moccasins come out in an Aspir version and are equipped with a sole that should offer"incredible grip".

To judge the veracity of this grip, we tried these shoes for 6 months, using them for all our sea trials, on motor boats as on sailing boats, not hesitating to mistreat them to judge their value.

Botalo Aspir

An incredible sole

At first glance, on an aesthetic level, this moccasin shocks a bit with a two-tone sole. The bottom part, on about 2 mm, is displayed in a light color that contrasts with the top of the sole. In addition, some kind of aeration on the second sole further marks this demarcation.

But if this aestheticism is questionable, it is also all the asset of the shoe. Because the grip is really incredible. On a dry or wet deck, the sole always adheres very strongly. With the Aspir, you get the impression that you could climb the mast without difficulty! Never even in the worst conditions, even on a motorboat that shakes you, have the shoes slipped. And what could be more pleasant and reassuring than keeping your feet glued to the deck?

Coloured leather

These moccasins are available in three colours: navy blue, brown and red. We had in hand (or rather at the foot) the red model. As is often the case, colour disappears with wear and tear in some places in favour of leather. I should probably consider giving them a good polish to give them back their full shine. But I also like this kind of wear that shows that the products live.

Among the disadvantages (and it's the only one I found!), we can notice a tendency to fade when the shoe is wet. Is this limited to the colour red only?

Botalo Aspir

To the question, would you recommend these deck shoes? I answer yes without hesitation. Indeed with this solid leather sewn on a sole with amazing grip, the Botalo Aspir form a good opportunity for sailors of all sides.

This model is available at 110 € TTC.
