Solubag, the soluble plastic bag that fights pollution

The Chilean company Solubag has just developed what could help stop pollution, especially marine pollution: a soluble and non-polluting plastic bag.

Solubag is a Chilean company managed by Roberto Astete, which specializes in the production of products and materials that do not harm the environment, with accelerated degradation technology. At a press conference in Santiago at the end of July, the manager and his sales manager presented tomorrow's plastic bag.

This bag is formulated from polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), a component that disintegrates on contact with water and is 100% environmentally friendly, while leaving no toxic additives or contaminants. Made from a limestone derivative, when it disintegrates, the bag does not pollute at all, leaving only carbon in the water. After a demonstration, the bag dissolved in water in 5 minutes, leaving it pure and colourless.

"There's only carbon left in the water, it has no effect on the human body." said Cristian Olivares, the sales manager, over a drink.

Studies on the presence of 19 types of heavy metals and 17 types of plastics banned by the European Union in Solubag products have also been carried out by SGS (inspection and certification company). The use of plastic bags has also been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

When we know that plastic takes between 150 and 500 years to disintegrate, this solution would be a real upheaval against pollution. This solution, whose initial price was high, is now more accessible, as the two men explain L he initial price of this new material was high, but thanks to continuous process improvement and supplier certification, we were able to divide this value by five and enter the market says Roberto Astete In the near future, the price will be similar to the current price of polyethylene .
