Route du Rhum 2018: Master Rooster rebuilds, Lagravière declines

Registrations for the Route du Rhum are closed and the press conference to present the famous race was an opportunity to discover the participating skippers. We will therefore note the presence of Maître Coq - through his skipper Yannick Bestaven - and the absence of Morgan Lagravière, who did not find a sponsor as he had hoped.

A new Vendée Globe for Master Rooster

Master Coq who sponsored Jeremie Beyou in the last Vendée Globe (2016-2017) had decided to put an end to the sponsorship of his skipper in IMOCA. However, the poultry farmer decided to keep one foot in the sail by sponsoring the Solo Master Coq, a qualifying event for the Solitaire du Figaro.

But to celebrate his 50th birthday (in 2019), Maître Coq is back for the 2020-2012 edition alongside a new skipper, Yannick Bestaven. A more affordable project for the poultry farmer since the skipper has his own boat, a Farr plan built by Vincent Riou for the 2008-2009 Vendée Globe (PRB 4) then passed into the hands of Arnaud Boissières (Akéna Vérandas) and finally Tanguy de Lamotte. Purchased a year and a half ago by Yannick Bestaven, the IMOCA raced in particular in the Transat Jacques Vabre in the colours of Bastide Otio.

This 3-year programme will therefore start with the Route du Rhum on 4 November 2018 "The company's return to sailing sponsorship ensures the continuity of a very unifying corporate project internally. Anchored in the Vendée, the region and its population live and vibrate every 4 years to the rhythm of the Vendée Globe. For the third time, Master CoQ is embarking his employees on an extraordinary adventure" explained the sponsor.

No sponsor for Morgan Lagravière

Roland Jourdain and Sophie Vercelletto, co-managers of SARL Kaïros, bought IMOCA Safran in July 2017 with the objective of a 2020 Vendée Globe. And with the skipper of the boat, Morgan Lagravière.

But a few days ago, the co-managers gave up IMOCA Kaïros' participation in the Route du Rhum, as they explained "It was in agreement with Morgan Lagravière, skipper, that the decision was taken, as he did not have the necessary budget to participate in the solo transatlantic race under good conditions. Roland, Sophie and Morgan are actively, dynamically and motivated in their search for financial partners for a 2020 Vendée Globe project."
