All C-Map maps available free of charge

All C-Map mapping accessible on mobiles

C-Map launches its maritime mapping application for mobile phones. While its competitor Navionics is very well established in this field, the C-Map vector map publisher belonging to the Navico group is also embarking on the adventure.

C-Map, property of the Navico brand, is launching a pavé in the pond. It launches its own mapping application offering all the maps of the world accessible for free! Unlike its competitor Navionics, which requires an annual subscription (very cheap, it is true), the Embark application user will be able to benefit from maps from all over the world without having to pay for them.

Navico C-Map Embark

For all mobiles

The Embark application is available on Google Play and on the App Store (Android and Apple). It can be downloaded for free. The maps are then accessible as soon as you stay within network range (requires an internet connection). If you move away from the network range of your mobile phone, the maps will no longer be visible. In this case, it will be necessary to switch to the Premium version (44,99 €/year) which allows you to download the maps and consult them offline. In addition to this offline consultation, the Premium version provides access to weather and tide forecasts. For the launch, Embark offers a 14-day free trial of the Premium version.

By downloading the maps each time you use them, Embark ensures that you always have the latest data update. C-Map maps are created from official hydrographic data. The C-Map map editor has made every effort to make the reading as clear as possible.

Sharing your browsing experience

For the moment, the application is quite basic with the ability to mark waypoints, plot routes and save your track. All this information is saved in your account (you must log in when you open the application). A navigation mode indicates the speed and current heading with heading and distance to the next waypoint.

A "Traffic" function indicates on the map the position of other users of the application. For the moment the interaction is limited to locating it on the map. Undoubtedly the evolutions of the application will allow to exchange with him. Because the will of Embark's designers is to share within the community: new places, fishing spots, itineraries..

Navico C-Map Embark

Interesting, but...

Those familiar with the Navionics application already present in many sailor mobiles will find Embark rather bland. Undoubtedly, the evolutions of the next versions (local information on marinas, ports, beaches, shops...) will make you want more. We would also like to see a more accurate weather page with Grib files displayed on the map and their evolution over time. A good start but still needs to be completed.
