Special Edition / Fischer Panda: the advantages of the variable speed generator set

Imported into France by Genhy, Fischer Panda Inverter variable speed generators only offer advantages for managing the electrical power on a boat. A range to discover.

To obtain a frequency of 50 Hz like the 220 V domestic mains, it is necessary to run a generator at 3000 rpm for a 2-pole generator or half (1500 rpm) if the generator is equipped with 4 poles. Each round is equivalent to 1 (or 2) period. It is the fixed speed that ensures a stable frequency.

Fischer Panda, the German generator manufacturer, offers another technical solution. With a 370 V three-phase generator equipped with 16 poles, the generator set produces current with a frequency of 400 Hz. This electrical current is unusable for our equipment designed for 220 V 50 Hz. It is therefore converted into an Inverter, an electronic device that transforms the frequency and redraws the current into a single-phase alternating current with a perfect sinusoid.

Since the frequency is no longer related to the engine speed of the unit, as is the case with conventional generators, the engine speed can therefore be varied according to the electricity demand.

Fischer Panda's i-range (like Inverter) works with this principle.

Only advantages

Apart from a slightly higher price for this type of generator set (less than 10% more), variable speed generators have only advantages. For the same power, they are smaller and lighter. This makes installation easier. There is also a reduction in fuel consumption and maintenance. Indeed, Fischer Panda groups have an internal software that calculates the periodicity of revisions (emptying) according to the efforts required of the group.

In addition, the coupling of two or more groups to obtain more power is easy. No need for a coupling cabinet to synchronize frequencies as is the case with traditional groups. Here a simple wire that connects the Inverter is enough to synchronize them. This is a big advantage when you want to equip a catamaran for example. This makes it easy to place a group in each hull and distribute the weights without the need for space requirements.

A range imported into France

Fischer Panda's I range offers units from 4 kW to 60 kW. For higher powers, it is sufficient to couple the groups. Since December 2018, the marine range has been available from the exclusive importer Genhy (Hybrid Generation) as well as Fischer Panda France Nautisme. In addition to these groups, this company also imports the German brand's electric motors (shaft motors or pod motors) as well as Victron Energie electrical equipment.
