Special Edition / Cristel, the know-how of a French pot manufacturer

On closer inspection, a saucepan is a very technical accessory. Cristel, which is the leading French manufacturer of high-end stainless steel cookware, explains the technology available in its utensils.

Cristel is a family company created in 1986 in the premises of the late Japy (whose typewriters are well remembered). Located in Fesches Le Chatel (Doubs) in a valley with strong industrial know-how, this company has devised the concept of removable handles for pots and pans. Today, Cristel pots and pans have become a reference (it represents about 80% of sales on the French market) with a large share of exports. It has a strong presence in Japan, whose quality requirements are well known.

A specialized manufacturing technique

Cristel specializes in the manufacture of stainless steel pots and pans. For this purpose, it uses 18-10 stainless steel sheets which are pressed into a mould under press to give the shape to the pan. For better heat conduction (stainless steel is a poor thermal conductor), an aluminium disc is brazed to the stainless steel. This thermo diffusing bottom can also cover the sides of the container. This is particularly the case on stoves. Some ranges even have several thicknesses of stainless steel (a stainless steel and aluminium sandwich up to 5 plies). The saucepan, a real technical instrument!

Pots for the boat

On a boat as elsewhere, the pleasure of cooking with beautiful instruments is also important. The Cristel ranges are perfectly adapted to the boat. In addition to their high quality, their removable handles make it easy to store in the shelves. In addition, these very aesthetic pots that work on the edge stove (and even induction), can be used in the oven (by removing the handle or wrists) and look great when served on the table as a serving dish.

Pleasure craft ranges

For the pleasure boating market, Cristel has developed the Mutine range with its coloured handles, which will be chosen in the colours of its boat, or the Cookway Ultralu range, a series in coated aluminium that is lighter but offers less calorific value (food is less toasted). Composed of 9 or 10 pieces, these two ranges combine pot, stewpot, frying pan and sauté pan to cook on the boat or at home.
