Special Edition / Plastic and Shapes: a water heater for boats

Having hot water on board for dishes or showers is a real comfort. But before you think about washing, you have to heat the water. Presentation of Elgena water heater solutions imported by Plastic et Formes.

To obtain hot water in a boat, there are several technical solutions. All of them use a tank that is heated either electrically, or by using the cooling water from the engine or even with a small diesel boiler.

A stainless steel tank to limit ageing

Plastic et Formes is the official importer in France of the German Elgena brand water heaters. These models, which range from 6 to 50 litres, are built with a stainless steel body. This metal offers a double advantage. Not only is it more durable and rust less quickly, but above all the limestone does not settle on it. As a result, it falls to the bottom of the water heater. It is then easy to remove at the time of the annual emptying.

The importance of good insulation

To avoid heat loss, the water heaters in the range are perfectly insulated. They keep the water hot at more than 80° for at least 48 hours (with an outside temperature of 18°). It is both comfortable to always find a good temperature at the tap, but also energy efficient to not have to heat the balloon all the time.

Three energies to heat water

There are 4 heating modes and can be combined. It can be heated with a 12 or 24 volt DC resistor, powered by the on-board battery. A 230-volt resistor can also be used to operate the water heater when the electrical outlet is connected to the dock.

Finally, the coil can also have an exchanger with water from the engine cooling system. The water is then heated when the boat's motor is used. There are also diesel boilers that heat a water circuit for cumulus.

The 4 heating solutions can be combined: for example, a water heater can have a 230 volt resistor as heating means and can also be connected to the heat exchanger of the motor or heating boiler.

Whatever the heating solution chosen, the cumulus is identical.

Minimum space requirement for maximum adaptability

It is the strength of this German manufacturer to offer water heaters that can be adapted to everyone's needs. The same goes for the size and shape of the balloons, where there is a wide choice. As for installation, there is no need to place the water heater right next to the engine, but where there is room so that it does not interfere.

15 l for 4 people

To help you choose your model, know that a family with 2 adults and 2 children needs a 10-litre balloon, 15 litres for a crew of 4 adults will suffice.
