During a transatlantic race between Cape Verde and the West Indies, Frederic felt the need to have an application that would give him basic information about his position, course and speed. He would like to display this data on his smartphone. But his search for this kind of application is futile. So this computer scientist decides to develop his own app' and offer it for free on Google's App Store (for Android devices). SailfreeGPS was born.
SailfreeGPS is an application that uses mobile GPS (smartphone or tablet under Android). On the first screen, the application displays the current position, course (COG), speed (SOG) and heading of the magnetic compass. Given the differences in GPS values, which can be very fluctuating, the application offers a "filtering" that averages over a number of points adjustable by the user. Thus the application displays the raw data (in blue) and the filtered data (in red). A kind of average much more representative of reality.
On the second screen, graphs show the evolution of its speed and heading. This way you will be able to see if your sail settings are effective by monitoring heading and speed. The number of data displayed (time) can be set from 0 to 20 minutes.
Finally, an MOB screen to declare a man overboard, records the position at the time of the fall and indicates the heading and distance to return to this point. The application is developed so that even if you leave it, the stored position always remains active when you return to the application.
SailfreeGPS also offers the possibility to send an SMS to your friends with position, heading and speed. And with the night mode that inverts the colors of the display, the reading avoids glare. This application is available in French and English.
Unpretentious, but very efficient, this application will provide many services for browsers. To consume without moderation, it's free!
