Shipyard visit / Yves Le Blevec - Offshore racing professions

It is an original idea of Yves Le Blevec, to highlight the shadow professions that make it possible to lead a colossal project to success. Bateaux.com is pleased to introduce readers to these passionate professions that bring the wildest dreams to life.

Yves le Blevec has understood that a skipper must be a force of inspiration, even bold proposals for his sponsor. And it is perhaps thanks to this complementary relationship, Actual has been faithfully supporting its skipper for 18 years now.

If the skipper's projects have been able to evolve from the Mini 6.50 to the Ultim trimaran, it is also thanks to the growth of his sponsor. In 2019, Actual became Actual Leader with new ambitions while Yves Le Blevec and his team took possession of their Ultim with new objectives.

Such a sporting journey cannot be achieved without men and women from the shadows that Yves highlights through an original web-series on the professions of ocean racing.

At the beginning of April 2019, the editorial staff of Bateaux.com discovered the Ultim Actual Leader, based in Lorient, with amazed eyes.

It is a visit of superlatives as these machines are so disproportionate. Yves Le Blevec unveiled his Ultim trimaran through his underwear. Indeed, the yard is actually built under the boat suspended several metres above the ground and surrounded by scaffolding.

The purpose of the immobilization under construction is to put this Ultim - ex Sodeb - in the colors of its sponsor.

It is also an opportunity to carry out repairs such as those to link arms damaged during the Route du Rhum 2018. Following slamming problems (tossing), the composite had delaminated, temporary reinforcements had made it possible to get back to sea. After study and analysis, the final arm repairs will allow you to start the race with a calm mind.

In addition, each piece that makes up the huge puzzle is dismantled, examined, checked and reassembled. It is a colossal task that requires the participation of an entire team.

During our visit, we met seamen, deck fittings, laminators, electricians, hydraulics, painters and engineers..
This web-series will introduce you to their know-how and passions.

We will follow the progress of the construction site, until the launch and first race of the Ultim Actual Leader.
