When we talk about safety, we quickly think of the SNSM sailors who put their lives on the line every time they go out to save others. But what equipment do they use to protect themselves? Could I have the same safety accessories as them?
For the harness lanyard, the SNSM approached the manufacturer Plastimo to design a model adapted to their use. And Plastimo has decided to offer this same lanyard to make it accessible to boaters, to you!
Colour for carabiners
For this product, Plastimo used the new lanyard model already presented at the beginning of 2019. It is a 3-point lanyard with lightweight aluminium carabiners (total weight of the lanyard with the 3 carabiners 570 g). The opening is protected by a double safety device to prevent accidents.
From now on these snap hooks are colored: in yellow to hang on his harness, in orange (color of the SNSM...) to dock on the boat. In addition, a hard anodizing process optimizes the resistance to raking of orange carabiners.
Single strand for the strap
In addition to the colour of the carabiners, SNSM asked Plastimo to modify the strap. This one is no longer made of 2 pieces, but is made in one end, with a seam in the center. The short flat strand measures 1 m while the second longer strand has an elastic band (length from 1.10 to 1.75 m). The strap is flexible with retro-reflective thread for quick identification at night under lamp illumination.
Overload indicator light
This strap is equipped with 2 overload indicators: when the indicator comes loose, indicating a heavy load, the lanyard must be replaced. It is a pity that the replacement of the Plastimo lanyard must be done in its entirety, and not just by replacing the strap, which is much more subject to wear than snap hooks.
