Standard Horizon expands its range of fixed VHF

Standard Horizon, a Japanese VHF manufacturer, is launching two new fixed VHF models for the 2020 season. GX1400 and GX1800 are both available in several configurations.

The base of the GX1400 and GX180 is quite similar with the same two-color 66 x 36 mm screen on which a simplified menu system is displayed with the use of icons. These VHFs are of course DSC, incorporating a GPS to facilitate the sending of a distress message by pressing the Ditress button on the front. Waterproofed on the front (IPX8), these VHFs can be installed outside on the console of an open hull or a RIB for example.

100 euros difference

Apart from a few additional functions on the 1800 model (which we will detail later) the 1400 and 1800 are quite similar. The size of their case differentiates them, the 1400 being more elongated (more rectangular format, 15.60 x 6.10 x 10.00 cm) that the 1800 is higher (format closer to the square, 15.00 x 8.00 x 8.00 cm). It is also on the price that the difference is played since the GX 1400 GPS is available at 245 euros TTC while the GX1800 GPS costs 100 euros more (345 euros TTC).

Additional functions

Compared to the 1400, the 1800 has route functions (waypoint, course deviation, speed and heading...), functions usually found on a GPS. It allows tracking and can be used as an onboard GPS for navigation. For boats that have a second cockpit (on the Fly, for example), the 1800 can receive a second remote handset.

If the 2 models are available with a NMEA 183 connection, a GX1850 GPS version has a connection to the NMEA 2000 network (385 euros TTC). This can be a plus for a boater who is already equipped with such a network.
