Web series / Mini 887 - Grégoire Chéron : a head-in-the-bucket turn

In this 4th episode of Mini 887, Grégoire Chéron practices manoeuvres aboard his Mini 6.50, under the watchful eye of François Jambou, winner of the prototype Mini Transat 2019.

After several years as a press attaché, Grégoire Chéron has decided to take on a new challenge, to take part in the Mini Transat 2021. After buying his boat and preparing it, Grégoire is now practicing navigation. Eager to improve, he called on François Jambou, winner of the Mini Transat 2019, who suggested a rather amusing exercise: performing a tack with his eyes "blindfolded".

The exercise is designed to put you in the conditions of a rude awakening, as often happens in racing. By simulating deep sleep, he must wake up immediately and perform a blind manoeuvre. In this case, it's a tack, which is much easier to perform than a gybe.

It is armed, or rather wearing a bucket on his head that he will have to carry out the entire tacking procedure. Indeed, on a racing boat, and a fortiori single-handedly, each manoeuvre is in fact a process of actions which follow on from one another in a very precise order.
