Skipper Tanguy Le Turquais takes the helm of Apicil, one of the most successful daggerboard IMOCAs of his generation. A first essential step in his quest for the Vendée Globe 2024.

Takeover of Damien Seguin's Apicil

The young ocean racer Tanguy Le Turquais has announced that he has completed the purchase of Damien Seguin's boat. He has acquired Apicil, the IMOCA boat with which the latter completed the Vendée Globe 2020 in 7th place. It is a daggerboard yacht of the 2008 generation, designed by the Finot-Conq firm. Since then, she has undergone a lot of optimization work to become one of the best performing boats without foils, taking top honors in her unofficial daggerboard category. The sailor is due to get the boat back at the end of January 2022, with the first objective of racing the Route du Rhum 2022.

A major step for Tanguy Le Turquais' Vendée Globe project

For several months, skipper Tanguy Le Turquais has made no secret of his desire to join the IMOCA class for the 2024 edition of the solo round-the-world race, after a traditional course in Mini 6.50 then 5 years in Figaro . By acquiring a boat, he has taken a crucial step towards achieving his Vendée Globe dream. His search for partners remains on the agenda to finalize his budget.

"What's funny is that at the end of the 2016 Vendée Globe, I had contacted Eric Bellion (editor's note: previous skipper Damien Seguin) because I had already felt a good potential in this boat but it was too early in my sailing career. It's great to see that 4 years later, my desire to sail on the same boat has come true. I like her a lot, she is still competitive, she will be within my reach and will allow me to manage both the water and the land part, we are going to write a great story together" Tanguy Le Turquais is delighted.
