Unfortunately, Tanguy de Lamotte returned to the port of Les Sables-d'Olonne following his mast damage. For his second participation in the Vendée Globe, the skipper has once again put his trust in Tribord to constitute his clothing.
Legend has it that at the start of the previous edition, a competing clothing manufacturer had given him his own waxes, telling him that Tribord waxes wouldn't last in such a tough race. Tanguy had vacuumed them and taken them aboard. On the way back, these clothes had not seen the light of day and had remained well wrapped. The Tribord oilskins had done their job perfectly during the 3 months of the race.
What's most remarkable is that the clothes that make up Tanguy's package come directly from the store shelves. Apart from a flocking in the Initiative C?ur colours, all these clothes come directly from the Tribord stores (Décathlon).
Tanguy is a true technical partner of the brand.
He makes the products progress, raises his remarks. But he has the franchise to sail with standard products. The same ones you can buy.
Except for one detail: given the sailing conditions on the IMOCA, with the deck always flooded as soon as the sailboat advanced, he asked to modify 2 vareuses by adding a latex waterproof collar. Products that Tribord markets with standard collars. Since latex collars are reserved for so few users, it would not be cost-effective to develop them for the general public.
Tanguy also asked the brand for waterproof shorts and fleece overalls for the ultimate conditions. Apart from these 4 pieces, any yachtsman can by going to a shop buy exactly the same panoply as this great sailor.
